Bird Sense
One of the most gifted aviculturists of our time has passed; we remember Mike Lubbock MBE who took his final flight on Saturday 7th September.
Mike’s term ‘Bird Sense’ summed up a skill beyond simple knowledge of birds. It is an intuitive knowledge of what is needed for their protection and the proper environment for good heath and breeding.
Collaboration came between aviculturists and Mike was a dear friend and mentor to countless individuals around the world. From British Royalty to remote South American conservation teams, his focus and expertise were valued. Mike’s expeditions and the collection he established in the United States in the 1980s set the standard for aviculture and teaching today. Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park in North Carolina US remains the world’s largest and most biologically relevant waterfowl collection.
The BWA extends love and condolences to Mike’s wife Ali, son Brent and the entire Sylvan Heights family.
